What To Expect

Our team makes it easy for today’s busy families. Our new patient forms are available digitally online to complete in the comforts of your own time. Our patient coordinators are readily available by text, email, or phone to assist you. Our practice makes every effort to see your children at their scheduled appointment time and to get your family right back on your way. And our doctors are on-call for your family 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. What can we say? We aim to please. (:

When You Arrive

Sunny Smiles Kids Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics is set up for fun. The waiting room is the first part of the adventure. You’ll find plenty of things for your child to experience when they arrive, including television shows, video games, toys, and books. Children and families can also take pictures in our full-sized photo booth to remember the day. There’s a cool prize wheel that gets spun before the appointment even starts. Teens and tweens automatically get a special entry into our seasonal contest.

Meeting Our Kid-Friendly Specialists

Once the appointment begins, your child will be introduced to one of our kid-friendly team members. They’ll then get to take cool photographs and x-rays of their teeth (if they’re 4 years of age or older), receive a sparkling cleaning while watching their favorite television show and learn helpful dental tips to keep them cavity-free. You’ll then get to meet our pediatric dentist for a dental examination and receive a full progress report of your child’s visit. Bring your list of questions. We would love to help you answer them.

Important Things to Know Before Your Child’s Treatment Appointment

Safety First: Your child’s safety is of utmost importance to our team. In order to ensure that we can provide the best care to your child during their treatment time, we ask that you keep the following details in mind when preparing for your child’s appointment.

  1. Eating and Drinking- Please refrain from giving your child anything to eat or drink 2 hours prior to the start of their dental appointment. This will minimize the risk of nausea and vomiting during and after the procedure.
  2. Adult Presence- We welcome one adult to accompany your child throughout their appointment, however, there are no other children allowed in the treatment room. Most importantly, no unattended children under 13 years of age are allowed in the waiting room. Therefore, where applicable, if you would like to accompany your child during their treatment appointment, please arrange childcare for any other children.
  3. Primary Guardian- Your child must be accompanied by a primary guardian. Your signed consent will be required if your child will be accompanied by an adult other than a primary guardian. Please contact our office for proper forms.
  4. Pregnant Mothers- If you are pregnant, please be advised that it may be harmful for you to be in the treatment room during the use of nitrous oxide.
  5. Preparing Your Child- It is best if you refrain from using words around your child that might cause unnecessary fear, such as “needle”, “shot”, “pull”, “drill” or “hurt”. Our team makes a practice of using words that convey the same message, but are pleasant and non-frightening to the child.
  6. Restrooms- Please be informed that your child will be required to visit the restroom after check-in.
  7. After Care- Prepare to supervise your child for up to 2 hours after a procedure appointment. OTC pain medication may be administered at home as needed.

Please contact us prior to your child’s appointment if you have any questions or concerns. Our focus will be on your child’s care on the day of treatment
